On March 31, 2026, at the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office in Eastville, VA, beginning at 9 a.m. Northampton High School Driver’s Education students will participate in a broad range of, hands-on traffic safety simulations designed to demonstrate the serious consequences of distracted and impaired driving.
Throughout the day, students will engage in a series of educational demonstrations and interactive learning experiences led by local law enforcement officers, emergency responders, and judicial representatives. Activities will include distracted and impaired driving simulations, mock traffic stops, instruction on safely sharing the road with large trucks, and presentations addressing the legal ramifications of unsafe driving decisions. Emergency vehicles and specialized equipment will also be displayed to provide students with a better understanding of first responder operations. Weather permitting, a Nightingale helicopter will be available on site for educational viewing.
The program will culminate in a full-scale mock crash simulation coordinated by the Virginia State Police, the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, local law enforcement agencies, Eastville Fire Company and Northampton County EMS. The simulation will include emergency response procedures, on-scene medical treatment and transport, vehicle extrication using hydraulic rescue tools, and a field sobriety test demonstration.
The event will conclude with a mock trial held in the Northampton County Circuit Court, led by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The exercise is intended to provide students with a realistic understanding of the legal, physical, and emotional consequences that can result from poor decision-making behind the wheel.
This collaborative effort reflects the shared commitment of local law enforcement agencies, first responders, educators, and community partners in promoting safe driving practices and encouraging responsible decision-making among young drivers.
