Use Chromebook Offline

Even if you’re not connected to the Internet, you can still do lots of things with your Chromebook.

Take notes

You can take notes offline using Google Keep. First, if you’ve already taken notes, you’ll need to save them so you can read and edit offline:

  1. Make sure your Chromebook is connected to the Internet.

  2. In the corner of your screen, select the Launcher .

  3. Open the Google Keep app .

  4. Wait for a few minutes. Your Chromebook will automatically save your notes so you can see them offline.

After your Chromebook saves your notes, you can edit them or write new notes offline. Any changes you make will show up in Google Keep the next time you’re online.

Other tasks you can do offline

On the Chromebook sign in screen, there will be a arrow to the right of the account you wish to remove. Click the arrow and then click Remove Account and again Remove Account.

This will delete just the account on the Chromebook, its files, and any settings made. This is useful for clearing out disk space or corrupt settings.

You may log back in with the same account right after deleting it.

Other Tips

1. Right-click on Chromebook

Unlike with typical laptops, simply pressing the bottom-right area of the trackpad will not initiate a right-click on Chromebook. Instead, you should tap the trackpad anywhere with two fingers at the same time to right-click.

Note: If tapping doesn’t work, try pressing the trackpad with two fingers.

Alternatively, you can press and hold the Alt key on the keyboard followed by tapping one finger on the trackpad. And, of course, if you have an external mouse, you can right-click in a regular way.

2. Zoom In and Out

You can increase or decrease the Chromebook’s display resolution without opening settings with the help of the following keyboard shortcuts:

  • Press Ctrl, Shift, + to make everything bigger.

  • Press Ctrl, Shift, - to make everything smaller.

  • Press Ctrl, Shift, 0 to reset screen resolution to the default values.

3. Use Apps in Split Screen

You can work on two different apps at one time with the help of the split-screen feature on Chromebook. This feature splits the screen into two halves where two apps appear side by side. You can use this feature to do multitasking on Chromebook.

  1. Open the first app and use the Alt + [ (left bracket) keyboard shortcut or Alt + ] (right bracket) to snap the app window to the left or right side respectively.

  2. Alternatively, drag the window to the left or right edge of the screen to snap it to that side. Use the black bar in the center and drag it to increase or decrease the size of the windows.

4. Turn Web Pages into Chrome Apps

The app will behave like a regular app on Chromebook. You can open it in a new window like other apps and you can even pin it to the shelf.

  1. Open the required website in Chrome on Chromebook.

  2. Click on the three-dot icon and go to “More tools-> Create shortcut.”

  3. Enter a name for the app in the Create shortcut pop-up window and check the box next to “Open as window”.

  4. Open the launcher and you will find the app shortcut.
