Our Narrative:

Northampton County Public Schools and the YMCA of South Hampton Roads are now offering a 21st Century Community Learning Center grant-funded After-School Program for Kiptopeke and Occohannock Elementary School students. Serving approximately 98 students in grades K-6, this unique program provides instructional enrichment, remediation, health awareness, social-emotional learning, the arts, and family involvement.

Through collaboration with community partners, we implement thematic instructional units centered on “Life on the Eastern Shore,” teaching essential literacy skills while promoting career exploration, life skills, character education, and social awareness. This engaging learning environment equips students with the tools to face daily challenges, build self-confidence, and take steps toward a brighter future.

During after-school hours, students participate in activities led by teachers, YMCA-trained instructors, and community partners. These positive role models mentor and guide students, encouraging them to reach their highest potential.
