The present structure of Northampton High School was originally built in 1954 and renovated and enlarged in 1978. Extensive remodeling has taken place since then which included new ceilings, heating and air conditioning, electrical modifications, upgrading the fire alarm system, upgrading the public address system and the installation of floor tiles and carpeting has taken place. These modifications will make the building a healthier and safer environment for all of the students and staff.
The structure houses approximately 743 students in grades 7 - 12. The campus also includes the Center for Careers and Technology where students receive career and technology education in automotive service technology, business information technology, building trades, computer technology, food services, and marketing.
Northampton High School is a Virginia and a United States Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, one of only 161 high schools in the country and one of only three in the Commonwealth of Virginia to receive the honor in 1996.
